York & County Press
York and County Press is a large business, which is situated in the centre of York. It publishes the main daily newspapers in York and North Yorkshire.
Helen Hora (Training Manager) requested that we train a group of senior sales managers, in order to reduce the stress that they were experiencing and help them develop more effective ways of working.
We delivered a ten-week training course, comprising one-hour sessions.
This resulted in a shift in perception and the development of new skills by the group – three men and four women.
The participants stated that they:
- I can deal with other people more freely now
- I have become more aware of personal choice
- I can alter my attitudes and behaviours
- I am more relaxed and have developed the ability to achieve my goals in a much less stressful way
Helen noticed a number of differences and said "My people/staff/team...
- ... see themselves and others as more rounded in terms of their skills and knowledge
- ... are more open-minded
- ... are more respectful of themselves and their own health
- ... are more respectful of each other and of other people’s space
- ... now communicate more freely and more easily
Helen also stated that the team had developed a clearer understanding as well as a better appreciation of a harmonious mind-and-body interaction. As a result, they have become, to use her words "more thoughtful, more complete people, which helps them with their teams, as they are managers."
A few other comments:
"They became aware that they were not always as in control of their mind and body as they thought they were."
"They learned how they can be effective managers by being non-aggressive, yet at the same time strong and powerful."
"It's not a simple equation of pressure = stress, I can change that now."
"I can be more effective by focusing my energy rather than flying into a reaction."
