about
flow training in its current form is a new company, but the approach that we use was first brought to the West in the 1930s, after thousands of years of being developed in secret in China. By a quirk of fate (destiny?) this happened to be in the UK. From here it was opened up to the western world and is currently practiced across Europe, the US and Australia.
But, it is still not widely known as it has no easily definable brand. It is so comprehensive that it is impossible to label it and put it in a convenient box. In fact, to do so would by its very nature destroy what it is.
After years of research and piloting the approach in a broad range of different organisations, we have taken certain fundamental strands and woven them in to the flow training approach.
Our combined experience amounts to over a hundred years of intensive practice and development. We are now able to offer this to you.
flow training uses a tried and tested approach to developing personal effectiveness. It is entirely unique and based on a Daoist tradition that originates from China and has been developed over thousands of years. The water analogy is a powerful and far-reaching one, but is just an example among a whole ocean of other possibilities.
The flow training concept has been around for a long time, but its ideas and practice are as modern as any of the latest theories. A lot of these are either borrowed directly from Daoist knowledge or are re-discoveries of ancient wisdom packaged and made accessible to the modern world.
Using interactive exercises Flow teaches how to be happier, healthier and more successful. Daoist thought and practices are being used in the business world today, one example being Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, and he certainly learnt a lot from Daoism!
In a business context the approach is adapted to help people be more effective. One very successful application, among many, is helping people release their stress and, more importantly, help them learn how not to get stressed in the first place. It’s a developmental process which can be akin to business coaching.
It requires some letting go of preconceptions and of personal barriers at the start, but as the (very) well-known Daoist saying goes: “a journey of 1,000 miles starts with a single step.
flow training is a social enterprise (Community Interest Company), so its surplus profits are used to support a registered charity in its work helping people suffering from disadvantage. The College of Chinese Physical Culture (Charity No. 1104209) was set up in 1999 and has helped thousands of people to improve the quality of their lives, develop new skills that make them more employable, gain qualifications where they had none, and improve their health and well-being. Using our training services directly helps people in local communities get a chance of a better future.
